SAILING SNIPPETS
May 2009 - An avid racing proponent, Russ Johnson, has participated in racing opportunities around the San Juans for several years. Most recently Rodman Duncan and Bill White have crewed in the Orcas Island Yacht Club Friday Night races.
The most recent racing results are posted on the left. Racing a 22' Carl Schumaker Pyramid 660 (Rocket 22), Breathless Mahoney, owned by Russ Johnson and David Welker, gets towed to West Sound starting line, where shifty winds can be a real challenge. The International Sailing Federation Racing Rules apply with a few modifications posted in OIYC's Sailing Instructions.
As the racing season has just begun, there is still time to come out and join in the fun of these and other sailboat races to be found on the OIYC Sailboat Racing page. Of course, a good time can be found at the OIYC picnic shelter after the races, where you can grill your own dinner, enjoy your beverage, and talk racing, spin a yarn or two.
