2012 Flag Officers

Diana Hancock, Vice CommodoreCommodore - Diana Hancock

Duane Bordvick, 2011 Rear CommodoreVice Commodore - Duane Bordvick

Duane and his love for boating were both born in Seattle. As a teenager he built four boats, a 10' outboard racing boat, an El Toro, a 14' runabout, and a 14' Blue Jay sloop. Relocating to the Bay area in 1967, he purchased a 1930's one-design Golden Gate sloop and joined the Point Richmond Yacht Club. After a number of boat-less years in Los Angeles, he returned to S.F. and joined Club Nautique, a Sailing Club in Alameda where he earned an ASA Certification for Advanced Coastal Cruising. Now it’s mostly power-boating in Gypsy Spirit, a 24' Sea Sport named after his wife Audrey.

Judy Welker - 2011 TreasurerTreasurer - Judy Welker

Introduced to sailing and racing big boats in Hawaii in 1976, she had the opportunity to sail south to Palmyra and Fanning Islands and later helped deliver a 50' Columbia Kettenburg designed sloop (Firebird) from the west coast to Hawaii working as second mate and gourmet galley cook. She met her future husband while greeting the '77 Transpac boats as part of the official welcoming committee. Her first experience in boat ownership was a 28' Herschoff ketch - a sweet boat to cruise around the Hawaiian Islands, but too much bright work for the harsh Hawaiian UV rays. After 28 years in Oahu and Maui, she happily traded in the barefoot sailing for the cozy cabin of a power boat in the Northwest. Email: webwench@lopezislandyachtclub.com

Jerry Hancock, 2011 CommodoreStaff Commodore - Jerry Hancock

Rear Commodore Jerry Hancock discovered boating six years ago and immediately embraced the "need a bigger boat" concept. Jerry works full time in his wife's law office, is a member of the Family Resource Center Board, a Lopez Lion and a volunteer fire fighter.

Dave Welker, 2010 CommodoreTrustee - Dave Welker

Grew up on the western end of Lake Eire sailing out of North Cape Yacht Club and Maumee River Yacht Club. Continued sailing in the Navy at NAS Whidbey and in Hawaii. Commodore - University of Toledo Sailing Team. Held 100 ton captains papers for thirty years running charter boats out of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. Five transpacific yacht races. Several sailing adventures to the South Pacific eventually became flag officer of Lahaina Yacht Club and twice Commodore of Maui Boat & Yacht Club. Dave & Judy move to Lopez in 2004 where we enjoy our Sea Sport 27 powerboat & 22’ sailboat.

What's not to love about Shanley? Organized, dedicated and on top of all that, she has a fabulous sense of humor. But you're never quite safe when she comes sneaking around with her camera! So be prepared, 'cuz she'll get you good! Email: lettos@rockisland.com
