2010 Trustees
Trustee - Mary Allsop
What could be better than " messing around on boats"?. My husband Jon and I have been cruising together for 3 decades and hopefully for 3 more. We cruised our boats to Alaska, the West Coast of Vancouver Isl., the Pacific Coast twice and Mexico. Our 1st boat was a 40 ft. Valiant sailboat, then a Grand Banks 42', next a G.B. 50'. then a 42' Canoe Cove, next a Zeta cat 34' and now a 47' Monk trawler...yes...we love boats! We've been former members of the Bellingham Yacht Club, Schooner Cove Yacht Club, San Juan Island Sailing Club and currently the San Juan Island Yacht Club. Being a past Commodore and now a trustee and reciprocal chair for the LIYC has been a privilege as well as great fun. I'm very proud of our club.
Trustee - Bill White
Bill was born with saltwater in his veins. He started sailing on his father's Malibu outrigger (movable ballast) when he was a toddler and worked his way up through the family's Sabat, R-11, Snipe, Cal 20, and Erickson 32. His sailboats have included a Tripp design/A & R built centerboard sloop named Touché, a Carter 39 sloop named Marguerite, and an Peterson 36 named Merlyn. He's also had his share of fish boats: An Apollo 22', a 22' Aquasport, a 22' Mako, and his latest project to hit the water is a converted 30' Roberts gillnetter. He still races with his old friends from San Diego Yacht Club on a 50 year old Caulkins 50.
Appointments
Newsline Editor - Shanley Lett
What's not to love about Shanley? Organized, dedicated and on top of all that, she has a fabulous sense of humor. But you're never quite safe when she comes sneaking around with her camera! So be prepared, 'cuz she'll get you good! Email: lettos@rockisland.com
The WebWench - Judy Welker
Introduced to sailing and racing big boats in Hawaii in 1976, she had the opportunity to sail south to Palmyra and Fanning Islands and later helped deliver a 50' Columbia Kettenburg designed sloop (Firebird) from the west coast to Hawaii working as second mate and gourmet galley cook. She met her future husband while greeting the '77 Transpac boats as part of the official welcoming committee. Her first experience in boat ownership was a 28' Herschoff ketch - a sweet boat to cruise around the Hawaiian Islands, but too much bright work for the harsh Hawaiian UV rays. After 28 years in Oahu and Maui, she happily traded in the barefoot sailing for the cozy cabin of a power boat in the Northwest. Email: islandhopper@centurytel.net
